lisawhitehare: re samuel palmer again - yes, what a wonderful painter! - i first came across his work at art school when i was living, funnily enough, in a place called shoreham (but not that one) - and remember reading something he had said about a particular quality of late-afternoon light, when the sun is very low and brilliant, and it would appear that buildings had become luminous, as if the stonework itself was giving out light - can't remember the exact wording and have never been able to find that quote again - very moving and beautiful. hope some more of his appear on tumblr!
